DISCERNMENT

The gift of good judgement. Pause to open.

It takes time to weigh your options. Don't rush it. The heart has to be just right for discernment to transpire, transform and transcend (the gift of knowing), so prepare your mind. Clear some space. Open your heart and....

Be honest with God. How do you truly feel about the situation you are in? You can be mad, sad, glad....doesn't matter as long as you tell the truth. Truth telling invites the presence of God into all the rooms of your heart. The messy ones and the sparkly clean ones. He moves in both. Do it now. (Pause for truth to transpire).

Forgive. Rodney Hogue writes, "Unforgiveness stifles God's destiny for our lives. It clouds our motives. It pollutes our purpose. It tempts us to deviate from our course. When unforgiveness is present, we find ourselves weighed down and easily worn out. When we have a heart that is willing to forgive, then the weights that hinder us are gone. When we forgive, we live in freedom." Do it now. (Pause for forgiveness to transform).

Receive. God is always good and will answer our prayers for discernment if we ask. He did with Solomon (known as the wisest man every lived) and treaties were made, the temple was built, and books were written (i.e., much of the book of Proverbs, the Song of Solomon, the book of Ecclesiastes, and two Psalms). Freedom has the power to take us beyond our dreams. Do it now. (Pause for freedom to transcend.)

Listen. Your heart is ready now to discern. Wait for a thought that isn't your own. A God thought and write it down. Listen and wait again for more God thoughts. Write them down. As your mind binds with His mind, you will know the right thing to do. Go....Run....and do it now.

That's all I know about discernment.... except for the fact that you won't get it right every time. Sorry. We are human, just like Solomon. But the good news is that God stills sees us as righteous, worthy, holy and pure (because that is how He created us).... even when we fail.
