THE BLESSING

I have always wanted the blessing. Not just any blessing….THE blessing. The favor of God over my life. I remember as a kid, when my parents were divorcing, I would literally wrestle with God for His blessing on them, on us as a family, for things to be Right again. You know, the favor of God thing.

And it didn’t happen.

Understood backwards, that’s not the blessing. For things to be Right would mean no conflict, no pain, no mistakes or disappointments and that isn’t life. Life is a surprise party. You don’t know what’s happening, who's coming, what you are going to get, how long it will last. It’s all a surprise. So what is THE BLESSING?

I’m only a momma bear, but I BELIEVE the blessing is God’s presence, in us and all around us. When I don’t know what to say, what path to take, how to get negative thoughts out of my head, who to trust, where to find patience, peace, hope, love. His presence is the Blessing.

There is a song called THE BLESSING written by Cody Carnes, that until this moment I didn’t really “get”. I just knew it made me happy, so much that I would sing over a picture of my kids. Strong and loud, hands reaching up to the heavens, waving at God for His complete attention. Yes, that is me.

The chorus of the song says,

May His favor be upon you And a thousand generations

And your family and your children And their children, and their children May His presence go before you

And behind you, and beside you All around you, and within you He is with you, He is with you

In the morning, in the evening In your coming, and your going In your weeping, and rejoicing He is for you, He is for you ….

The favor of God is in moments like these. Being aware that you are not alone. Whatever happens in life, He is for you.
